CA Town Bans Retail Dog and Cat Sales

Pet store puppiesThe South Lake Tahoe City Council has banned the retail sale of dogs and cats. Yes, pet stores can no longer sell dogs and cats in that city.

The new law is effective May 5, 2009, but retailers of puppies have 2 years to comply. Only one store, Broc’s Puppies, sells puppies in South Lake Tahoe.

More than 90% of puppies and kittens sold by retailers come from puppy and cat mills. This is a huge and significant step to closing down outlets that allow millers to profit from the cruel suffering they inflict on these animals.
